Northeast news: 3.7 magnitude earthquake strikes Assam's Kamrup, no casualties

An earthquake of magnitude 3.7 was reported in Assam's Kamrup on Wednesday evening, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) said. According to the NCS, the earthquake happened at 7:23 PM on Wednesday at a depth of 19 kilometres. However, there were no immediate reports of loss of life and property. &quot;Earthquake of Magnitude:3.7, Occurred on 14-02-2024, 19:23:14 IST, Lat: 26.10 &amp; Long: 91.98, Depth: 19 Km ,Region: Kamrup, Assam, India,&quot; the NCS tweet read. Apart from Kamrup residents, people living in Darrang, Udalguri, Nagaon and Morigaon could have felt the tremors, reports said. Meanwhile, an Outlook report said that the epicentre of the earthquake was pinpointed at around 24 km east of Guwahati, near the Assam-Meghalaya border. Few days ago, an earthquake of magnitude 3.3 on the Richter scale was recorded in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda. Earthquakes are frequently in India's northeast as it falls in the high seismic zone. Earlier this month, a 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck USA's Southern California coast near Malibu and was widely felt in the Los Angeles region, rattling windows and shaking shelves but bringing no reports of major damage or injuries. The area of the epicenter was in the rugged Santa Monica Mountains, roughly 35 miles (56 kilometers) west of downtown Los Angeles.
