Taking a dig at Maharashtra Minister of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection Chhagan Bhujbal who claimed he had resigned in November 2023 over Maratha OBC quota issue, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday slammed it as a 'hogwash'.

Raut said Bhujbal, who belongs to Ajit Pawar-led faction of the NCP, had attended the cabinet meetings even after November 16, the date the minister claimed he had tendered his resignation.

Bhujbal, while addressing a rally in Ahmednagar on Saturday, accused the Maharashtra government of facilitating "backdoor entry" of the Maratha community into the OBC quota.

Explaining why he did not go public about his resignation, the OBC leader claimed that he did not speak about the issue for over two months because Chief Minister Eknath Shinde told him not to.

The minister from Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction said he is not opposed to Marathas getting the reservation but is against sharing the existing quota for the OBCs.

Raut alleged that Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is behind Bhujbal's outbursts against handling of the Maratha quota agitation by Manoj Jarange. “Both are hand in glove. I will resign but you will not accept it or you resign and we will not accept it," he claimed.

Led by activist Jarange, the Maratha community has been protesting for inclusion in the OBC category.
