Congress leader and former party president Sonia Gandhi will attend the consecration ceremony of Ayodhya Ram Temple on January 22, sources in the know of the development said.

NDTV reported that besides Sonia Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury were invited for the consecration ceremony and Sonia Gandhi has decided to attend the event. 

The idol of Ram Lalla which will be installed inside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple during the consecration ceremony on January 22. According to Trust secretary Champat Rai, a 51-inch-tall idol of Lord Ram best reflecting a five-year-old-Ram Lalla would be selected for consecration. The idol will be placed on an eight-foot-tall gold-plated marble throne which is being crafted in Rajasthan. 

The rituals will begin on January 16 and on the day before the consecration ceremony, the idol will be bathed in 125 urns. On January 22, after the morning puja, the deity of Ram Lala will be consecrated in 'Mrigashira Nakshatra' in the afternoon. 

Congress was in a fix for the past few days as the party feared both attending and skipping the event could affect votes in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Leaders of the party made conflicting statements about party's leaders attending the event.
