In a reprehensible incident, a man in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior allegedly strangled his wife to death as she did not give birth to a son. The couple has two daughters aged six and four years and the accused – Dashrath Pal, 35, – allegedly used to torture his wife for failing to give birth to a boy.

The murder took place on December 13, but the Sirol police in Gwalior registered a case under Section 302 against Pal on Tuesday after getting the postmortem report, which confirmed that the victim, Srishti Pal, 29, had been strangulated.

“The family members of the victim told police that Dashrath Pal used to abuse and beat up Srishti on the issue of a boy child. On the basis of their statement and the postmortem report, we have registered a murder case against Dashrath. He has been arrested and is being interrogated,” additional superintendent of police of Gwalior, Niranjan Sharma told THE WEEK.

According to police sources, the Pal family lives in Sutarpura in Murar locality of Gwalior city. The family owns another house near Hurawali Ganesh Dairy under Sirol police station area. The house is vacant and some or other family member goes there once a week to clean it up. On December 13, the accused took Srishti to this house on the pretext of cleaning it up and strangled her there and thinking her to be dead, locked the house and fled.

Later that day, a neighbor called up Dashrath’s brother Manish to inform that though the house was locked, sounds of a woman crying inside had been heard. Manish reached the house and found his sister-in-law unconscious. Srishti was taken to hospital, but she died on December 14.

The Sirol police had registered a case of accidental death, sent the body for postmortem and started a probe.

Meanwhile, Srishti’s brother Ajay Kumar Baghel told police about the torture his sister had faced from her husband for failing to give birth to a boy child. He also alleged that three days before the incident, Dashrath had beaten Srishti up and tried to strangulate her.

Baghel claimed his sister herself had told this to him.

Dashrath was arrested on the basis of these statements and the postmortem report confirming murder of Srishti.
