BSF personnel, native woman suffers minor injuries in Pak Rangers' unprovoked firing in Jammu

Firing continued till 2.45am on Friday

A constable of the Border Security Force and a native woman suffered minor injuries in unprovoked firing by Pakistan rangers along the India-Pakistan border in Jammu on Thursday night. The firing continued till the early hours of Friday.

In a statement, BSF said, “On the evening of October 26, 2023, at about 8pm, Pakistan Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing along the Indo-Pak International Border in Sector Jammu. In response, BSF troops immediately retaliated to the firing. Subsequently, Pak Rangers extended their firing to target our adjacent BOPs, prompting retaliation from own Forward Defense Posts in these areas in a befitting manner.” 

BSF said Pakistan forces resorted to mortar firing around 9.15pm and targeted other border outposts and civilian areas. “Some of the shells landed in Arnia town, resulting in minor injuries to one civilian, Rajni Devi, wife of Balbir Singh, Arnia, Jammu.” 

The Force said, “Around 10.40pm, Pak Rangers used heavy machine gun fire from Pakistan and targeted our Posts, which was again retaliated by own troops in a befitting manner.” Firing continued till the early hours of Friday, till 2.45am, BSF said.

Dev Raj Chowdhary, Sarpanch, at border village Bulleh Chak in Sai Kalan, Arnia told ANI, "There was a lot of firing by Pakistan overnight. No person was injured but houses were damaged. This kind of firing from the Pakistani side has been witnessed after almost six years. Our security forces retaliated to the firing." Ekta, another villager from Arnia told the publication that her house got damaged in the firing, at around 8pm on Thursday night. Mortal shells were found by villagers at another border village Bulleh Chak as well.
