Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma has been caught overspeeding on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway in his Lamborghini, according to a report from the Pune Mirror. The incident occurred just one day before India's crucial match against Bangladesh in the ongoing ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023.

According to officials from the traffic department, Sharma received three traffic tickets for exceeding the speed limits on the expressway. The 36-year-old cricketer was en route to Pune to rejoin his team ahead of their World Cup match at the MCA Stadium.

Witnesses reported that Sharma's Lamborghini reached staggering speeds, surpassing the 200 km/h limit and even touching a maximum speed of 215 km/h at certain points. As a consequence, his vehicle was issued three online traffic challans.

The incident has raised concerns among traffic police officials, who have suggested that Sharma should travel in the team bus with a police escort to ensure his safety and avoid any further incidents on the highway.

Rohit Sharma has been in stellar form during the World Cup. After a disappointing performance in India's tournament opener against Australia, where he scored a duck, the right-handed batter made a remarkable comeback, scoring a century against Afghanistan and a half-century against Pakistan. His contributions were instrumental in India's successful chases of targets totaling 273 and 192 runs, respectively.

With a total of 217 runs at an impressive average of 72.33 in three matches, Sharma currently holds the fourth-highest run-scorer position in the tournament. He also set two records during the match against Afghanistan, hitting the most sixes by a player across all three formats and achieving the most centuries in ODI World Cup history.
