Shah calls for ruthless approach to combat terror; says no new terror outfit should be formed

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on Thursday, asked anti-terror agencies to adopt a ruthless approach to ensure that new terrorist organisations do not spring up in the country.

Addressing an anti-terror conference in the national capital, the home minister said we have to destroy not only terrorism but its entire ecosystem.

Observing that tough decisions taken by the Modi government have yielded very good results in handling challenges posed by cryptocurrencies, hawala, terror-funding, organised crime syndicates and narco-terror links, he said, "All anti-terror agencies will have to adopt such a ruthless approach that new terrorist organisations cannot be formed."

There is more to be done in this regard, Shah said.

The home minister said in order to dismantle the entire terrorist ecosystem, "we must work with the spirit of the whole of government and team India."

He asked anti-terror agencies of the Centre and states to make use of the big databases prepared by the Union government in the last five years as this will help in successfully combating terrorism. Use the databases for investigation, prosecution, prevention, and action, he added.

Shah pointed out the need for better coordination between the states and the Centre for fighting terrorism and said hierarchy, structure and standard operating procedure of investigations of anti-terror agencies should be the same in all the states.
