Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday assured that India will be among the top three economies in the world during the third term of the NDA government. Modi cited a NITI Aayog report to claim that 13.5 crore people have come out of poverty in the last five years.
"In our first term, when people gave me the responsibility, we were "dus numbri" (10th position) in the world economy. In the second term we are in 5th position but in my third term, India will be among the top three economies in the world...Yeh Modi ki guarantee hai,” the prime minister said.
He was addressing a gathering after the inauguration of the redeveloped International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC) complex at the Pragati Maidan in Delhi.
Modi said international agencies are saying that extreme poverty in India is on the verge of ending. “This shows that the decisions and policies that have been made in the last nine years are taking the country in the right direction," he added.
Modi inaugurated the IECC complex which was developed as a national project at a cost of about Rs 2,700 crore and has a campus area of approximately 123 acres. The prime minister also unveiled the new name of the complex—Bharat Mandapam.
The IECC complex has been developed as India’s largest MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) destination. In terms of the covered space available for events, the IECC Complex finds its place among the top exhibition and convention complexes in the world, said a PMO release.
The newly developed complex comprises of multiple state-of-the-art facilities including convention centre, exhibition halls, amphitheaters etc.
The convention centre is developed as the centerpiece of Pragati Maidan complex. “It is a grand architectural marvel, designed to host large-scale international exhibitions, trade fairs, conventions, conferences, and other prestigious events. It is equipped with multiple meeting rooms, lounges, auditoriums, amphitheater and business centre, making it capable of hosting a wide range of events,” the PMO said.
The statement said the architectural design of the convention centre is inspired by Indian traditions and showcases India's confidence and conviction in its past while also embracing modern facilities and the way of life.
The shape of the building is derived from 'Shankha' (conch shell), and its different walls and facades depict several elements of traditional art and culture including 'Surya Shakti highlighting the country's efforts in harnessing solar energy, 'Zero to ISRO', celebrating its achievements in space, 'Pancha Mahabhuta' signifying the building blocks of universal foundation; 'aakash' (sky), 'vayu' (air), 'agni' (fire), 'jal' (water), 'prithvi' (earth), among others.
Various paintings and tribal art forms from different regions of the country adorn the convention centre as well.
