Four militants trying to infiltrate from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir were killed on Friday by security forces at Kala Jungle of the Machil sector near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara in North Kashmir.
The operation was jointly carried out by Jammu and Kashmir Police special operation group (SOG) and Army.
“Four militants have been killed in the encounter while they were trying to infiltrate into this side,’’ Police tweeted. "In a joint operation, Army and Police have killed four #terrorists in Kala Jungle of Machhal sector in #Kupwara who were trying to infiltrate to our side from POJK."
This is the fourth encounter in Kupwara in recent days.
Earlier, two militants were killed in a joint operation by Army and Police at Dobanar in the Machil sector. The encounter was followed by a major infiltration bid on June 16 in which five militants in Jumagand forests along the LoC were killed by the security forces.
India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire on the LoC in February 2021. Ever since the ceasefire agreement, the infiltration has declined which has brought cheer to the residents straddling the LoC.
Of late, infiltration witnessed an increase but most have been foiled barring a few in Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu also called Pir Panjal, the mountain range that separates south Kashmir from Rajouri and Poonch bordering PoK.
The incident happened ahead of Home Minister Amit Shah's two-day visit to Jammu for addressing a rally at Bhagwati Nagar. He is set to pay tribute to RSS ideologue Syma Prasad Mukherjee. He will also lay the foundation stone and inaugurate several developmental projects in Jammu and Srinagar.
