Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who actively campaigned in Karnataka for the upcoming Assembly elections, left a message for Kannadigas, a day before they headed out to the polling stations. In a tweet posted on the BJP Karnataka's official handle on Tuesday morning, the Prime Minister said he wanted the state to be the forerunner in investment, industry and innovation.
"The dream of every Kannadiga is my own dream. Your resolution is my resolution," the Prime Minister said in his video message.
He also highlighted Karnataka's role in the development of India's economy, stating that India can become one of the top three economies only when Karnataka’s economy develops. "BJP government’s decisive, focused and futuristic approach is contributing significantly to Karnataka’s economy," Modi said while praising the double-engine government in Karnataka.
"Even during Covid, under the leadership of Karnataka BJP, foreign investment of 90,000 crores was witnessed yearly. However, during the previous governments, Karnataka saw a yearly foreign investment of approximately 30,000 crores. This is the BJP’s commitment to the youth of Karnataka," the PM added.
Promising that the BJP will work towards developing the state, he said: "BJP’s government will work with utmost loyalty to improve the infrastructure in cities, advance the transport system, improve quality of life in villages and cities, and ensure that new opportunities are created for women and the youth."
Modi added that he wanted Karnataka to be number one. "We want Karnataka to be number one in investment, industry and innovation. We want Karnataka to be number one in education, employment, and entrepreneurship. BJP is also trying to make Karnataka number one in agriculture too. Karnataka’s heritage and cultural competence have been revered," he added.
"For making Karnataka number one, I request you all to cast your vote as responsible citizens on May 10," PM Modi further remarked.
The 40-day-long high-octane campaign in the state ended on Monday with all three major parties -- the BJP, Congress and JD(S) -- leaving no stone unturned to ensure maximum votes.
The last day also saw parties and lines crossing the line of public discourse, as both BJP and Congress were served notice by the Election Commission on Monday.
The state witnessed a high-octane campaign with leaders of major political parties camping in the state for many days.
The ruling BJP rode on the Modi juggernaut, putting the focus mainly on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the 'double-engine' government, national issues and programmes or achievements of the union government coupled with just a few from the state.
The Congress by-and-large focused on local issues and its campaign also was run by its state leaders initially. However, its central leaders such as AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra pitched in subsequently.
The JD(S) led by former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda was seen putting all its might into campaigning, wanting to emerge as "king" and not "Kingmaker". It an a highly localised campaign, anchored solely by its leader H D Kumaraswamy, with party patriarch Deve Gowda too joining in later despite his advanced age and related ailments.
