Rajasthan Congress leader Sachin Pilot will arrive in Delhi on Wednesday, a day after he held a day-long fast despite the Congress leadership warning him against it.
Pilot, who opened a new war front against Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot through his protest, will likely meet party president Mallikarjun Kharge. The senior party leaders are likely to hear Pilot’s side of the story before making its next move as the state Assembly elections are fast approaching, reported The Indian Express.
It is also unclear whether Pilot would meet Rahul Gandhi, who will fly back from Wayanad on Wednesday along with AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and organisation general secretary K C Venugopal.
Gehlot's press meet
Gehlot, meanwhile, has called a press conference on Wednesday. Though he has been silent since Pilot announced the strike on Sunday, the chief minister posted a video in which he lists his government's welfare policies and thereby projecting himself as a "pro-poor, common man's chief minister". Rajasthan will be No. 1 by 2029," Gehlot said. He also declared price rise as an election issue. The video was shared separately by the official Twitter handle of the Congress party.
Many think the video hinted at Gehlot's plan to project himself as the chief minister candidate again and Pilot's fast was an apparent attempt to stall this in the run-up to the polls.
There are also speculations that Pilot planned to leave the party. Meanwhile, the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) has urged Pilot to form a new party and expressed interest in forging an alliance with him for the Assembly elections.
RLP chief Hanuman Beniwal said he is open to allying with any party against the Congress and the BJP. "I have suggested earlier also that if Sachin Pilot forms his party, then RLP is ready for an alliance for the elections," Beniwal told reporters.
"I can only give suggestions. If he forms the party, we will do an alliance. If he does not make his party, then it is his wish. Our doors are open for alliance with any party against Congress and BJP," the Nagaur MP said.
