9 dead, several injured after bus crashes into car in Gujarat

Accident took place on Ahmedabad-Mumbai highway

At least nine people died and several were injured after a bus crashed into car in Gujarat's Navsari Saturday morning. According to a report by NDTV, the bus full of people returning from the Pramukh Swami Maharaj Shatabdi Mahotsav event from Surat rammed into a Toyota Fortuner SUV on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai highway after the driver suffered a heart attack and lost control of the vehicle.

Of the nine who died, eight were travelling in the car. “One seriously injured has been referred to Surat,” Navsari DySP VN Patel told ANI.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah condoled the deaths in a Twitter post.

In a tweet in Gujarati, he wrote: "The road accident in Gujarat's Navsari is heartbreaking. My condolences to those who have lost their families in this tragedy. May God give them the strength to bear the pain. The local administration is giving immediate treatment to the injured, praying for their speedy recovery.”

Those travelling in the SUV were residents of Ankleshwar in Gujarat.
