BJP's Maharashtra chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule, several party MLAs and other leaders took part in the protest at Tilak Chowk in the morning.

"We will not tolerate any statement against our prime minister. PM Narendra Modi is the one who is striving hard to save our Hindu religion, and Pakistan is unable to see it. That is why they are making such statements. In future, we will not tolerate such remarks from Pakistan," Bawankule was quoted by PTI.

BJP state women's wing head Chitra Wagh and former Pune mayor Murlidhar Mohol also took part in the protest.

Also in Delhi, senior BJP members and Bengaluru MP Tejashvi Surya as well as Delhi BJP working president Virendra Sachdeva carried out demonstrations in the streets of the city.

Uttar Pradesh BJP president Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary issued a statement on Friday evening, terming Bhutto's statement against Modi as "indecent" and "shameful".

BJP workers staged a protest in Mathura on Friday and burnt an effigy of the Pakistani minister.

Protest erupted across the nation after the Pakistani foreign minister made remarks against PM Modi and slammed the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at the UN. Bhutto had launched a personal attack on Modi after India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar hit out at Pakistan when the latter raised the Kashmir issue in the UN Security Council.
