The Congress MLAs in Himachal Pradesh, who met on Friday evening to pick the next chief minister, left it to the party high command to take a call.

The party's central leaders Rajeev Shukla, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, and former CM of Haryana Bhupinder Singh Hooda were present at the meeting of the MLAs.

According to media reports, the legislators passed a one-line resolution, authorising the Gandhi family and the new national president of the Congress Mallikarjun Kharge to appoint the next chief minister.

The meeting was held after a show of strength by aspirants to the post. Chief minister hopefuls Pratibha Singh, Mukesh Agnihotri and Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu had reached the party office for the Congress legislature party meeting along with their supporters, who raised slogans in their favour.

A group of supporters of Pratibha Singh, the state party chief and the wife of former CM Virbhadra Singh, had blocked the vehicle of the party's central leaders, raising slogans, saying that the chief minister should be from the family of Virbhadra Singh.

The Congress wrested power from the BJP in the hill state winning 40 of the 68 assembly seats. The polling was held on November 12 and the results were declared Thursday.
