The high-stakes Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections is underway across 250 municipal wards. The polling that began at 8 am recorded a voter turnout of 18 per cent by 12 pm noon. While by 2:30 pm the voter turnout crossed 30 per cent. 

With polling beginning at 8 am, voters made a beeline at polling booths as the day progressed. Voting will continue till 5.30 pm in the evening. The counting of the votes will be on December 7.

According to polling officials, the voting is going on smoothly so far.

BJP is eyeing its fourth consecutive term at the civic body, while Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmii Party is looking to wrest power from them. While Congress is trying to redeem itself with a better performance this year after suffering setbacks in previous elections. 

As many as 1,349 candidates are in the fray for the MCD elections. The leaders had urged the people to vote.

Meanwhile, Anil Kumar, the Delhi Congress president, however, found his name missing from the voters' list. He said that the officials are looking into the matter. 

According to data shared by State Election Commission officials, the total number of voters in Delhi is 1,45,05,358 of which 78,93,418 are male, 66,10,879 female and 1,061 transgender persons.

Authorities have set up 13,638 polling stations across Delhi. 

According to Delhi State Election Commission figures, there are 229 voters in the national capital aged 100 and above. Also, there are 2,04,301 voters of age 80 years and above but less than 100.

This is also the first election since the delimitation process, which saw the three corporations in the national capital - South, North and East - being unified into the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. The process also reduced the number of wards from 272 to 250.
