The seventh edition of ‘Jal Mahotsav’, one of the major events of Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board that is touted as the largest water carnival in India for adventure seekers and enthusiasts, will begin on November 28.

The two-month event will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan at Hanuwantiya Island in Khandwa district in the presence of Tourism and Culture Minister Usha Thakur.

Principal secretary, tourism and culture, and managing director, Madhya Pradesh tourism board, Sheo Shekhar Shukla said ‘Jal Mahotsav’ established itself as an ideal destination for adventure lovers of the country. The MP tourism board constantly strives to add to the enthusiasm and enjoyment of the tourists through innovations. In this series, the latest activity is the ‘flying inflatable boat’ at the Hanuwantiya Island, which is located in the backwaters of Indira Sagar dam. This is the first time in the country that such an activity is offered for tourists, he said.

Adventure activities like scuba diving, night safari at Boriyamal Island, luxury regal series boat, 40-feet high rope swing, zip cycle, para-motoring, parasailing, speed boat, jet sky, hot air ballooning, and motor boat riding will be the major attractions in Hanuwantiya.

Tent City in Hanuwantiya Island is being operated by the tourism board in association with Sunset Desert Camp. It has facilities like an AC conference hall for corporate conferences with 104 luxury Swiss tents. Many other facilities and entertainment/adventure activities like a wellness spa by Kairali group of Kerala, three-day angling sports event involving national and international anglers, music festival, and kite festival will be part of the Jal Mahotsav this time, Shukla said. The festival will end on 28 January 2023.

The Jal Mahotsav was awarded ‘India’s Unique Water and Adventure Carnival’ at Spain in January 2022. It also received the ‘most unique and remarkable innovative tourism product’ award from the Union ministry of tourism for the year 2015-16

More than 2.40 lakh people participated in the two-month Jal Mahotsav in 2021, Shukla said.
