More than four months after he began campaigning in Gujarat, Aam Aadmi Party convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday invoked social activist Anna Hazare while speaking about attempting to clear the “slush” from the political system.

Kejriwal was addressing parents and teachers at a town hall in Vadodara, a BJP bastion.

Kejriwal, who has been saying that he does not know how to do politics, quoted Hazare telling him that politics is dirty. “I told him that since it is dirty, one will have to enter and clean the slush with the broom,” he said.

He reiterated the AAP’s commitment of setting up new schools in Gujarat and giving quality education. Kejriwal mentioned how students of government schools in Delhi were getting admissions in IITs.

In the country that has the famed Nalanda University, it is a shame that students have to go abroad for studies, he said.

He alleged that the BJP does not want to provide free education because its intent is not clean.

Kejriwal said that he does not need a vote bank but needs “Shaktishaali Bharat” (powerful India).

The two-day visit of Kejriwal began with a drama at the Vadodara Airport when a group of people shouted “Modi” slogans.

Earlier, Gujarat AAP leader Isudan Ghadvi alleged that the party could not get a venue for the town hall and as many as 13 times they had to change it following “threats” given to the hall owners.

Kejriwal thanked one Navneetbhai of Vadodara, who gave his hall for the programme.
