The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets milk and milk products under the brand name of Amul, has increased the milk prices by Rs 2 per litre.
The hike, which comes into force from Wednesday, will be applicable in the markets of Ahmedabad and Saurashtra of Gujarat, Delhi NCR, West Bengal, Mumbai and all other markets where Amul is marketing its fresh milk.
A GCMMF spokesperson said that the hike is being effected due to overall increase in operation and production cost of milk. Giving an example, it was said that the feed cost alone has increased by 20 per cent as compared to last year.
The Federation spokesperson said that prices given to the farmers have been increased by around eight to nine per cent in last one year. Following the price rise, in Ahmedabad and Saurashtra Markets, the price of Amul Gold will be Rs. 31 per 500 ml, Amul Taaza will be Rs 25 per 500 ml, and Amul Shakti will be at Rs 28 per 500ml.
