Arrested Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut's wife Varsha Raut has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate over the money laundering charges linked to a land scam case, reports said on Thursday. The ED summons came hours after a special court in Mumbai extended Raut's ED custody till August 8.

The case is related to the alleged financial irregularities in the redevelopment of a 'chawl' in Mumbai and related financial property transactions involving Varsha and alleged associates.

Raut, a Rajya Sabha member and a close aide of Sena president Uddhav Thackeray, was arrested on Sunday night after ED conducted a raid at his house and questioned him for hours at its zonal office. On Monday, the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court remanded him in the ED custody till August 4 and today the custody was extended till August 8.

Varsha has been named repeatedly by the agency in connection with the case and some of the properties linked to her have been attached. She, however, has not been questioned so far.

On Monday, the ED had told the court that Raut and Raut's family received "proceeds of crime" worth over Rs 1 crore generated out of alleged irregularities in the housing redevelopment project.
