The India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall over Southern and northeastern states during the next few days.
In its bulletin, IMD predicted a shear zone in middle tropospheric levels likely to develop across extreme south Peninsular India from August 2. The weather agency predicted isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm, lightning likely over Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh and Jammu andKashmir for two days.
Isolated very heavy rainfall has been predicted over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, coastal Karnataka regions, Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Karaikkal, and Mahe over the week. Extremely heavy rainfall likely over Kerala and Mahe between August 2 and 4, IMD said.
Educational instituions in few districts of Kerala were granted holiday today considering heavy rainfall. Holiday was declared for educational institutions in certain taluks in Pathanamthitta and Kollam districts.
Orange alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki districts of the state for August 1. Orange alert has been issued in eight districts for August 2, 12 for August 3 and 12 on August 4, according to an IMD district rainfall forecast issued for Kerala at 1pm on Sunday.
