Stone pelting in Jahangirpuri; cops rule out communal angle

Stone pelting was reported in the Jahangirpuri locality of north-west Delhi on Tuesday night.

Delhi Police DCP (North West) Usha Rangnani told ANI “An incident of quarrel and stone pelting was reported in PS Mahendra Park. One Zahir and friends came in search of 2 boys for their argument, which took place 2 days back. They were allegedly drunk and threw stones in which glasses of 3 vehicles were damaged.”

She added “Two people namely Vishal and Veeru residing in Jahangirpuri have been apprehended and others will be arrested soon. There is no communal angle to the quarrel as both the groups belong to the same community. No one was injured in the incident.”

Republic TV quoted Delhi Police as saying “On enquiry, it was found that one Zahir along with his some of his friends came to I Block in search of Sameer and Shoaib for their argument which has taken place two-three days back. They were allegedly drunk and when they couldn’t find anyone, they threw some stones in which glasses of 3 vehicles were damaged.”

CCTV footage from the locality emerged, showing people running and pelting stones.

Media reports said additional police teams had been sent to the area.

Jahangirpuri had witnessed clashes during Hanuman Jayanti in April. Times Now had reported then “Jahangirpuri had witnessed communal clashes on April 16 during a Hanuman Jayanti procession in which nine people, including eight policemen were injured. Md Ansar was names as the prime accused in the violence case.”
