Hacker puts out tweets on an NFT trading event

The official Twitter account of India Meteorological Department (IMD) was hacked on Saturday evening, official said, adding that efforts were on to restore it.

“Official Twitter account (@Indiametdept) of India Meteorological Department (IMD) has been hacked about an hour ago. All the tweets from this account should be ignored till its restoration,” the IMD said in a statement issued at 9.15 pm.

The IMD Twitter handle has more than two million followers. The hacking comes at a time when the IMD handle has been attracting a lot of traffic due to the ongoing intense heatwave in parts of India.

The hacker has posted over 10,000 tweets and also pinned a tweet regarding an NFT trading event.

Earlier in the day, the official Twitter handle of the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister's Office was hacked briefly. A case was registered in this connection at the Cyber Crime police station in Lucknow.
