Aam Aadmi Party leader and Punjab chief minister-designate Bhagwant Mann met Governor Banwarilal Purohit today to stake claim to form the new government in the state.
Mann reached the Raj Bhawan in Chandigarh around 10:30 am.
"I met the governor and handed over the letter of support from our MLAs and staked claim to form government," Mann told the media after his visit.
Mann was elected the AAP's legislature party leader at a meeting of the party MLAs in Mohali on Friday.

The AAP romped home by winning 92 seats in the 117-member Punjab Assembly. Mann won from the Dhuri seat by a huge margin of 58,206 votes.
The party decimated the Congress and the SAD-BSP combine and its candidates defeated several stalwarts, including the outgoing chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, SAD patriarch Parkash Singh Badal and former chief minister Amarinder Singh.
A day after the Aam Aadmi Party's maiden victory in Punjab, Mann visited Delhi chief minister and party national convener Arvind Kejriwal at his residence in Delhi, to congratulate him on the victory.
Mann has said the oath-taking ceremony will be held at Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of legendary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh in Nawanshahr district.
"[The ceremony] will be held at the native village of Bhagat Singh at 12.30 pm on March 16. We will have a good cabinet, historic decisions that were never made before will be made," said Mann after meeting the governor.
