Militant, two soldiers killed in Shopian encounter

A militant and two soldiers were killed in an encounter in Shopian district of south Kashmir on Saturday.

The encounter took place at Chermarh village of Zainapora area after security forces received information about the presence of the militants in the village. As the security forces closed in on the militant safe house, they came under fire from the militants triggering an encounter in which one militant was killed while two soldiers of Rashtriya Rifles (RR) were injured critically.

They were removed to the Army’s 92 base hospital where they succumbed to the injuries. They were identified as Santosh Yadav and Romit Chauhan. 

The operation was carried out by a joint team of police’s special operation group (SOG), CRPF and RRl after receiving specific information about the presence of militants in the village.

The identity of the slain militant is being ascertained.
