Punjab Congress unit chief Navjot Singh Sidhu on Sunday warned of the dangers of factionalism in the party state unit before the assembly polls.
At a press conference in Amritsar, Sidhu was asked about factionalism in the party. Sidhu was quoted by ANI as saying, “No one can defeat Congress. Only Congress can defeat itself.”
Sidhu declared, “Everyone knows that Congress will give a strong and secure government. We will make a new Punjab.”
He again accused Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia of having mafia links. Sidhu is contesting against Majithia from the Amritsar East constituency. Sidhu was quoted by ANI as saying Majithia “has filed cases against so many people. I haven't lodged a single case against anyone”.
On Saturday, Sidhu had taken aim at Majithia after filing his nomination papers from Amritsar East. Sidhu said, “If you (Majithia) have so much guts, and have faith in people then leave Majitha and fight from one seat here. Fight! Do you have the guts?”
Sidhu alleged the Akali Dal had fielded Majithia from Amritsar East to play “spoilsport”.
