PM Modi to celebrate Diwali with soldiers in Rajouri

The prime minister had, in 2019 too, celebrated Diwali with the troops in Rajouri

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will, reportedly, celebrate Diwali with soldiers in Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir.

This will be the second time—the first being in 2019—that the prime minister will be celebrating Diwali with troops in Rajouri, which is a border district prone to infiltration from across the Line of Control (LoC).

Eleven soldiers were killed in a militant attack in October in the Poonch, near Rajouri.

The Army launched a massive operation in Poonch at Bhata Dhurian forests to trace the militants. The operation was also extended to Rajouri and combing operations were carried out for more than 20 days.

Ahead of Modi’s visit, Army Chief General M.M. Naravane did an aerial survey of the forward areas to check the security arrangements. Naravane was briefed by the senior commanders about the security situation in the area and along the LoC.

He was also given a detailed briefing about the Poonch operation.

This will be the second high-profile visit, after Home Minister Amit Shah’s three-day visit to the Union Territory in October.
