V.S. Achuthanandan, who was chief minister of Kerala from 2006 to 2011, is in ICU due to age-related complications.
Achuthanandan was taken to the Sree Uthradom Thirunal (SUT) hospital in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday night. “He has been diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis followed by dyselectrolemia and altered renal functions. He is closely being monitored in the ICU,” a hospital bulletin said.
Achuthanandan, considered an iconic figure in the Kerala CPI(M), has been inactive in state politics in recent years due to poor health. Achuthanandan (98) suffered a minor stroke in 2019.
Achuthanandan had been a seven-time MLA.
