Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday India had scripted history as the country crossed the milestone of administration of 100 crore COVID vaccines.

Modi tweeted, "India scripts history. We are witnessing the triumph of Indian science, enterprise and collective spirit of 130 crore Indians.  Congrats India on crossing 100 crore vaccinations. Gratitude to our doctors, nurses and all those who worked to achieve this feat." Modi tweeted the hashtag ‘vaccine century’.

China is the only nation to have administered more COVID vaccines than India. China claimed to have fully inoculated 1.05 billion citizens by late September.

Speaking after inaugurating the Infosys Foundation Vishram Sadan at National Cancer Institute (NCI) in Jhajjar Campus of AIIMS, Delhi, Modi said the achievement of 100 crore vaccinations "belongs to every Indian".

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said "Under PM Modi's leadership, Today India achieved mark of 100 crore vaccine doses administered. This day will be registered as the golden day in India's history. We've achieved this feat in 9 months only, hence I congratulate everyone."

Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated Modi for his determination regarding "the safety and health of every person".
