The Union government told the Kerala High Court on Tuesday that fully vaccinated persons cannot be vaccinated again.
According to news agency ANI, the court was hearing a plea by a man from Kannur district in the state, who sought permission for revaccination although he was fully vaccinated with Covaxin.
The 50-year-old man, Girikumar Thekkan Kunnumpurath, working in Saudi Arabia, in his petition before the High Court, said he wants to be revaccinated with Covishield although he has been fully vaccinated with Covaxin, as the Saudi Arabia does not recognize Covishield.
He is supposed to be back to work before August 30 as per his visa agreement or face the risk of losing his job.
In his petition, he had said that he returned to India after the second wave of the pandemic hit Saudi Arabia in January.
"He got the first Covaxin dose on April 17, and the second a month later. It was only after receiving Covaxin that he came to know that it is not approved by the Saudi government. Had the authorities informed the public about the non-recognition of Covaxin earlier, he would not have taken it. He never knew his decision would put his job abroad in jeopardy," his complaint stated, reported ANI.
