Tathagata Roy, a former chief of the West Bengal BJP unit and former governor of Tripura and Meghalaya, has never shied away from provocative utterances. Be it his views on religion, politics or even the internal affairs of the BJP, Tathagata Roy has almost always courted controversy.
On Sunday morning, Tathagata Roy tweeted about a news report on the US purportedly being concerned about "human rights in India". Tathagata Roy appeared to be referring to a report in The Times of India and other publications about concerns being expressed by a US official about some actions by the Indian government. Acting Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Dean Thompson claimed some of the Indian government's restrictions appeared to inconsistent with the country's democratic values. Thompson referred pointedly to restrictions on freedom of expression and detention of human rights activists.
In his tweet, Tathagata Roy tagged the official Twitter handles of the US embassy in India and the consulate in Kolkata and referred to post-poll violence in West Bengal and appeared to be telling the US to focus on West Bengal. Tathagatha Roy tweeted, "@USAndIndia @USAndKolkata Times of India reports USA is concerned abt Human Rights in India. Plz concentrate your concern on West Bengal state where a bloodbath has been unleashed by hoodlums of the state ruling party Trinamool Congress on BJP supporters. Unbelievable? But true!"
Since the BJP's defeat in the West Bengal election last month, Tathagata Roy has been commenting extensively on the alleged post-poll violence in West Bengal that has been targeted at workers of the saffron party. While being critical of the Trinamool Congress, Roy has also attacked the BJP state leadership for its choices in the run-up to the elections. A day after former BJP leader Mukul Roy returned to the TMC, Tathagata Roy tweeted that Mukul Roy was a "Trojan horse" in the BJP.

Tathagata Roy tweeted on Saturday, " Clearly Mukul Roy was a Trojan Horse. After having been welcomed into the BJP, gained access to its all-India leaders and hobnobbed with state BJP’s gullible and ??? leaders and learnt all about the party and its innermost detail, he went back and leaked everything to Mamata. But what’s done is done. Now the big question is, did Mukul leave back Trojan Horses within this Trojan Horse?"
