Continuing his attack on the Centre over its 'positivity' push, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi claimed that it is a PR stunt to hide the actual number of deaths due to COVID-19.

The Congress has been alleging that there has been under-reporting of COVID-19 deaths.

A day after tweeting that "Numbers don't lie... GOI (government of India) does" while citing a New York Times estimate of the number of coronavirus deaths in India, the Congress leader, on Thursday, tweeted that the "‘Positivity’ is a PR stunt to hide the actual number of Corona deaths PM’s actions have caused."

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had hit out at the RSS and its affiliates over the attempts to push 'positivity' amid the second wave of COVID-19, saying "The false assurance of positive thinking is a joke on health workers and families of those who have lost their loved ones, and people who are suffering due to lack of oxygen, hospitals and medicines. Burying one's head in the sand is not positivity, it is a betrayal of our citizens.” He was then referring to a programme, 'Positivity Unlimited', a series of online lectures being coordinated by the 'Covid Response Team', an organisation formed by the RSS and various affiliates and civil society groups.

On Wednesday, alleging that the Centre is suppressing actual number of COVID-19 deaths, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had said, "We will never know the true number of Covid-related deaths as the government has worked harder on suppressing this data than they did fighting the pandemic."
