The Maharashtra Police announced that bodies of at least 13 Naxalites were recovered on Friday morning following an encounter in the Etapalli area of Gadchiroli district. According to reports, the encounter was continuing.

The encounter between the C-60 commando unit of Maharashtra Police and Naxalites began early on Friday. DIG Sandip Patil described the ongoing operation as a huge success.

The Times of India reported, "The commandos have recovered some arms, weapons and substantial literature and other materials of daily need from the encounter site."

The Naxalites had, reportedly, organised a meeting with villagers about a contract for tendu leaves. The Naxalites were believed to be part of the Kasansoor Dalam. The police launched the operation after getting information about the meeting.

Last week, two Naxalites, including a woman, were killed in an encounter in the Dhanora area of Gadchiroli.
