Kerala reports record 43,529 new cases, 95 deaths

The COVID-19 situation continues to be grim in Kerala which reported the highest single day spike of new positive cases and fatalities on Wednesday. The state reported 43,529 new cases in the last 24 hours while 95 more patients succumbed to the virus.

A total of 1,46,320 samples were tested during this period, and the test positivity rate rose to 29.75. Ernakulam (6410) and Malappuram (5388) reported most number of cases, followed by Kozhikode (4418) and Thiruvananthapuram (4284).

The death toll in the state reached 6,053 while the total active cases climbed to 4,32, 789. No case has been reported from people who came from abroad in the last 24 hours, the government said.

As many as 34,600 COVID-129 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovered cases in the state to 15,71,738.

On Tuesday, Kerala had reported 37,290 new cases and 79 deaths. The state has already been under lockdown since May 8.
