A day after the Delhi government warned the national capital was staring at a COVID-19 vaccine shortage, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has appealed to the Centre to share formula of vaccines to make them across the country.
Kejriwal noted it was not possible to vaccinate the country using products from just two companies, referring to Serum Institute and Bharat Biotech. Kejriwal told mediapersons there is a shortage of vaccines across the country and an urgent need to ramp up its manufacturing on war footing while developing a national policy to inoculate everyone in the next few months. Kejriwal said royalties could be shared with the two main manufacturers.
Kejriwal tweeted, "How to overcome vaccine deficiency... It is not possible to give vaccine to the entire country with only two companies. The vaccine formula should be shared with other companies... Many other companies in India should be allowed to make vaccines... Vaccine should be produced at war footing so that every Indian can be vaccinated."
"We're administering 1.25 lakh doses every day. We'll begin vaccinating over three lakh every day. We aim to vaccinate all residents within three months, but we're facing shortage," Kejriwal said.
