Amid complaints of patients being overcharged at private facilities, the Karnataka government has capped prices of CT-scans and digital X-rays at private hospitals and labs.
“Private hospitals and labs cannot charge more than ₹1500 per CT scan and ₹250 per digital X-ray. We will take strict action against hospitals violating this and I also urge people to make use of facilities in government hospitals where it is free of cost,’’ said state Health Minister Dr K. Sudhakar.
“Since RT-PCR tests are resulting in false positives in many cases, doctors are prescribing CT-scan or X-ray to detect infection. We have received many complaints about private hospitals and labs misusing this situation and exploiting people. To check this, we have decided to cap prices,” he added.
Karnataka has 5,17,075 active cases as on Thursday. With 49,058 positive cases reported yesterday, the state’s total tally of COVID-19 cases has climbed to 17,90,104.
Since CT- Scan or X-Ray is becoming increasingly necessary to detect Covid-19 infection, Government has decided to cap the price of CT-Scan and Digital X-Ray in private hospitals and labs at ₹1,500 and ₹250 respectively.
