India vaccinates over 7.8 lakh people in last five days; no severe adverse event so far

A total of 7,86,842 beneficiaries have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in the country till 6 pm on Wednesday, the Union health ministry said, adding that as many as 14,119 vaccinations sessions have been held in the last five days.

Of the 1,12,007 beneficiaries who received vaccine through 2,353 sessions on Wednesday, 36,211 people are from Karnataka, 22,548 from Andhra Pradesh and 16,261 from Maharashtra. While 7,891 people received the vaccine in Odisha, 6,834 beneficiaries got the jab in Tamil Nadu. In Madhya Pradesh, a total of 6,731 people were inoculated on Wednesday.

The ministry said though 82 AEFI (adverse event following immunaisation) have been reported on Wednesday, none of them is severe.

It said those who were hospitalised in Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan have been discharged.

In Delhi, of the four hospitalisation cases, three people have been discharged while one person is under observation at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital in Shahdara.

In Karnataka, one person has been discharged while another person is under observation at District Hospital in Chitradurga.

In West Bengal, one person is under observation at Sub-Divisional Hospital in Jangipura, Murshidabad.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi rolled out the world's largest inoculation drive against COVID-19 on Saturday and said the two vaccines being deployed will ensure a "decisive victory" for India against the pandemic.

India has approved two vaccines—Covaxin developed by Bharat Biotech and Covishield from the Oxford/AstraZeneca stable being manufactured by the Serum Institute of India—for emergency use in the country.
