Highest single-day spike of 1,026 reported in Gujarat

The 24-hour period also witnessed 744 patients getting discharged

Gujarat recorded the highest single-day increase of 1,026 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 50,465. In the period of 24 hours ending at 5pm on Tuesday, the state has also recorded 34 deaths. The death toll in the state now stands at 2,201.

The 24-hour period also witnessed 744 patients getting discharged after treatment. So far, as many as 36403 patients have recovered.

An official press release stated that so far 5,62,682 tests have been conducted in Gujarat.

While Ahmedabad has been witnessing a decline in the number of deaths in the last few days, numbers have shot up in Surat. Fourteen deaths have been reported in the Surat municipal corporation limits and seven in the district. This was followed by five deaths in municipal corporation limits of Ahmedabad and two in Vadodara municipal corporation limits.

The highest number of cases – 225 – was reported from Surat municipal corporation limits, followed by 187 cases in Ahmedabad municipal vorporation limits. Surat district recorded 73 cases.

Cases are also being reported from cities, towns and rural areas of Saurashtra region due to reverse migration from Surat, Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
