Ever since the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, ample warnings have been issued against trusting the WhatsApp forwards about "home remedies" to prevent contracting the disease, and quacks who claim to offer treatment to the disease. There have also been incidents of people being arrested for offering treatment to the disease without valid qualifications.
Now, a Congress Congress councillor from Karnataka has come out with a bizarre “cure” for the pandemic—rum and eggs.
In a video that has gone viral, Ravichandra Gatti, Congress councillor from Ullal CMC in Mangaluru, asked people to drink 90ml rum after adding a teaspoonful of ground pepper. Eat two half-fried omelettes as well, and coronavirus will disappear, he claimed.
He said he had tried many medicines, and only this one worked. Further, he said he is not suggesting this as a politician. but as a member of the corona committee .
According to a New Indian Express report, Gatti is a social worker. Congress leaders from the district were planning to discuss the issue.
Mangaluru MLA UT Khader said said the district administration should find out why Gatti shared the video on social media. "Gatti has been a social worker for the past 15 years. We will also discuss the matter with party leaders and take a decision," Times of India quoted him as saying.
