Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to come forward and address the nation on the facts of the developments that have taken place in Ladakh that resulted in the killing of 20 Indian soldiers. The incident has shaken the consciousness of the nation, Gandhi said, as she urged the Prime Minister to tell the country the facts of the matter.

“As you all know, for the last one-and-a-half months, the Chinese army has intruded into Indian territory in Ladakh region. Today, when there is tremendous anger in the country with regard to this incident, the Prime Minister should come forward and tell the nation how China seized our land, and how did our 20 soldiers got martyred, what is the situation on the spot today, are any of our army officers or soldiers still missing, how many of our officers and soldiers are seriously injured, what part of our territory has China seized and where,” Gandhi said.

The Congress President said that she wanted to urge Modi to give an assurance to the country on the basis of facts. She said the prime minister should tell the country what his government's thought and policy are with regard to the developments and the solution they have in mind.

Gandhi said the Congress party was completely with the armed forces, the soldiers, their families and the government. “I am confident that in this challenging period, the country will face the enemy unitedly,” she said.

Soon after Sonia's address, PM Modi, in a brief video message, assured the nation that the sacrifice of Indian soldiers killed in a clash with Chinese troops at Galwan Valley in Ladakh would not go in vain. He added that India wants peace but when instigated, it is capable of giving a befitting reply, be it any kind of situation.
