How to access an e-pass for inter-state travel during lockdown 4.0

Announcing the relaxed restrictions for the fourth phase of the lockdown, the home ministry said inter-state movement of passenger vehicles and buses will be allowed with mutual consent of states involved.

Besides, people who are planning to travel outside their state for emergencies can do so by availing a travel pass. The pass must be produced whenever asked by police at the borders of states.

The government has set up a portal for people to avail the pass by providing the details and purpose of travel. The portal has been developed by National Informatics Centre (NIC). Currently, travel in 17 states are possible by registering on this website. One can also go to the official website of the state and avail the travel pass.

How to avail the pass

- Visit https://serviceonline.gov.in/epass/ and select a state

- You will then be directed to the official site of the state you have picked

- Enter your mobile number. An OTP will be sent to the mobile number

- Enter the OTP in the column shown

- Fill the personal details asked and the details of the travel

- Upload documents supporting the reason for travel

- The government will look into the reasons and decide on the pass

- You will receive an SMS on your mobile number if your application is accepted.

However, persons above 65 years of age, persons with co-morbidities, pregnant women, and children below the age of 10 years have been advised to stay at home, except for essential and health purposes.
