'Bois Locker Room': Was a girl with a fake account behind the 'gangrape' comment?

No case will be registered against the girl

In the notorious 'Bois Locker Room' case, screenshots of 'gangrape discussion' that were leaked from an online group, comprised of largely South Delhi youngsters, were a major point of debate. Among those was a one-to-one Snapchat conversation, with one boy suggesting an "aggravated sexual assault plan" of a girl, said Anyesh Roy, deputy commissioner of police (cyber crime unit), PTI reported.

The news agency claimed that investigation revealed that the boy in the Snapchat conversation was actually a girl who created a fake profile in the boy's name. According to the report, she suggested the sexual assault plan to check the boy's [on the other side of the chat] reaction and test his character, Roy said. THE WEEK cannot vouch for the veracity of the report.

The boy then declined to participate in any such plan and stopped further communication. He, however, took a screenshot of the chat and reported it to his friends, including the girl about whom the conversation took place, Roy said. One of the other recipients of the screenshot posted it as an Instagram story, from where it started circulating in various social media accounts along with screenshots from 'Bois Locker Room' Instagram group, he said.

The 'Bois Locker Room' case had become infamous after a girl shared screenshots of an online conversation, claiming that a group of guys aged 17-18 in an Instagram group shared morphed pictures of girls, passing crude commentary on them. One of the leaked screenshots showed the boys discussing sexual assault and gangrape. "We will together gangrape her. We can do it easily," according to one of the chats in the conversation. THE WEEK could not independently verify the authenticity of the leaked images.

Police said that no case will be registered against either the girl or the boy. "Although, creating a fake id is wrong, her intent was not malicious so we are not filing any complaint," an official said.

So far, 24 members of the Instagram group have been identified and police are still waiting for details sought by them from the social media platform and the Forensic Science Laboratory where they have sent the devices for examination. The group admin was arrested and a juvenile have been apprehended, police said, adding a case under relevant sections of the IT Act and the IPC have been registered.
