Machines used by farmers to spray disinfectants in their farms have been deployed by the Delhi government in an extensive sanitisation and disinfection drive in the containment zones across the city in a bid to control the spread of COVID-19.

The sanitisation drive involves as many as 70 machines, including 20 hi-tech Japanese machines. The machines can easily be adapted to the conditions in Delhi as they can enter narrow lanes and congested areas.

“This is the first time in India that such a technology is being used to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic. The disinfection drive will start in the red and orange zones. The Japanese technology is very unique and it is made specifically to spray disinfectants,” said MLA Raghav Chadha, in whose constituency Rajinder Nagar, the drive began.

He said the farmers use these machines to spray disinfectants in their farms, hence they are specifically equipped for disinfection and sanitisation tasks.

The chemical composition of the disinfectant being used in the sanitisation drive is as per the guidelines of the World Health Organisation, Chadha said.

Yesterday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had said while addressing a press conference that 20 Japanese machines that are capable of disinfecting 20,000 square metres in an hour had been provided to the Delhi government by an agriculture sciences company. He said the machines have been given to Delhi free of cost.

Other than these machines, the Delhi Jal Board has 50 smaller machines which are also being deployed in the disinfection drive.
