Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to extend the lockdown, a tweet by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal hinted on Saturday. "PM has taken correct decision to extend lockdown. Today, India’s position is better than many developed countries because we started lockdown early. If it is stopped now, all gains would be lost. To consolidate, it is important to extend it," Kejriwal, who suggested lockdown extension during Modi's video-conference with chief ministers of various states earlier in the day, tweeted.
Most states requested Modi to extend the lockdown by two weeks during the video conference. According to various media reports, citing government sources, the Centre was actively considering the request.
Apart from Kejriwal, Punjab CM Amarinder Singh and Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray also suggested extension of the lockdown. Currently, Punjab and Odisha have announced state-wide extension of the lockdown till April 30. "Most CMs sought extension in lockdown during interaction with PM. Modi agreed, saying continuation of lockdown is a must," Puducherry Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy told PTI after the meeting.
