COVID-19: India reports 92 new cases, 4 deaths in last 24 hours

Officials say the country is still in the local transmission stage

At least 92 new cases of novel coronavirus and four deaths have been reported in India in the last 24 hours, the health ministry said on Monday. With this, the total number of cases in India rose to 1,199 while the death toll reached 29.

The ministry, however, clarified that the country has not yet reached the community transmission stage. 

"The country is still in the local transmission stage, if it reaches the community transmission stage, the health ministry will admit it but country is not there yet,” an official said. 

The number of active COVID-19 cases stood at 1068, while 102 people were either cured or discharged and one had migrated, the ministry stated.

Maharashtra has reported the maximum number of eight COVID-19 deaths so far, followed by Gujarat (6), Karnataka (3), Madhya Pradesh (2), Delhi (2) and Jammu and Kashmir (2) and West Bengal (2).

The total number of 1,199 cases includes 49 foreigners.

The highest number of confirmed cases of the pandemic has been reported from Maharashtra (215) so far, followed by Kerala at 202.

The number of cases has gone up to 83 in Karnataka, while Uttar Pradesh has reported 72 cases.

The number of cases has risen to 70 in Telangana, 69 in Gujarat and 63 in Rajasthan.

Delhi has reported 72 cases, while in Tamil Nadu, the number of positive cases is 67.
