After 28 people tested positive for coronavirus in the state on Monday, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced total lockdown in the state from tonight (Monday) till March 31.
Announcing the decision, Vijayan said that the lockdown became necessary to check the spread of the virus. He said state borders will remain closed during the lockdown.
So far, as many as 95 people tested positive for COVID-19 in the state. Four of the infected people have recovered completely.
Barring essential and emergency services, public and private transport services will be stopped during this period of lockdown. Water, electricity, telecom and outlets dealing with essential commodities like milk, vegetables, groceries, meat and fish will be open during this period.
Stern actions will be taken against those who violate the restrictions, the chief minister said.
