Kerala sees no respite from the novel coronavirus scare with two more persons, including an Italian citizen, testing positive on Friday, taking the total number of active cases in the state to 19.

Both the fresh cases were reported from Thiruvananthapuram district, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The Italian national was placed in isolation at a private resort in Varkala and will now be shifted to the Medical College Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.

The second case is of a Vellanadu native who has a recent travel history to Britain, the chief minister said.

At least 5,468 people are under observation in the state—5,291 under home quarantine and 277 in isolation wards at various hospitals, Vijayan said.

He said an all-party meet scheduled on Monday will assess the situation in the state.

On Thursday, Kerala had witnessed two cases—one from Thrissur and the other from Kannur.

The state has been hit by the second round of coronavirus cases after the country's first three positive cases in the state were successfully cured and discharged from hospitals last month.

The government has said temple and church festivals, which witnesses mass gatherings should be avoided, but rituals can be held in a low key manner.

It has also asked devotees of Lord Ayyappa to avoid visiting the hill shrine in Sabarimala which will reopen on Friday for monthly poojas.

All government related functions have been postponed including in which ministers participate.
