Even as violence continue in various parts of Delhi over the Citizenship Amendment Act, the Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to take out rallies and meetings in all districts of Tamil Nadu in support of the contentious legislation.

BJP state unit general secretary Vanathi Srinivasan said the party will also demand that case be registered against those making hate speeches against Hindus.

Several parts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, Coimbatore, Thiruchi and Vellore, had witnessed protests against the law.

In Delhi, at least 11 people, including a police officer, died as violence rocked the northeast parts of the city. Protesters supporting and opposing the CAA clashed in several areas, prompting police to fire tear gas shells.

According to Citizenship Amendment Act, members of Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities who have come from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan till December 31, 2014, and facing religious persecution there will not be treated as illegal immigrants but given Indian citizenship.
