The Bharatiya Janata Party seems to have found a political opportunity over the Citizenship Amendment Act in Maharashtra where the party has been forced to sit in the opposition after the Shiv Sena joined hands with the NCP and the Congress to form government. A senior BJP leader on Saturday said that his party was ready to make any “political compromise” if the Sena encountered problems with allies in implementing the CAA.

Former minister Ashish Shelar asked the Uddhav Thackeray's party to pull out of the Maha Vikas Aghadi, if the NCP and the Congress opposing the implementation of the law.

"Don't worry about saving your government. If you walk out of the government for the CAA, we can discuss and make compromises. Do not get scared of anyone, show them your real strength," Shelar said.

He said the CAA was imperative for the interests of the country and Maharashtra.

"There are many Pakistani and Bangladeshi illegal migrants living in Maharashtra and other parts of the country. They must be thrown out. For this, we call upon Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to implement the CAA immediately," said the BJP leader.

The contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill was approved by the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha this week, and became an Act after President Ram Nath Kovind gave assent to it on Thursday night.

The Shiv Sena had supported the bill in the Lok Sabha but opposed it in the Rajya Sabha. Both the NCP and the Congress have strongly opposed the legislation, calling it 'unconstitutional'.

On Friday, Shelar had written to the chief minister seeking immediate implementation of the "historic" Act in the state.
