Unnao rape victim dies at Safdarjung Hospital
The rape victim from Unnao, airlifted to Delhi and admitted to the Safdarjung Hospital here after she was set on fire allegedly by five persons, died on Friday night, hospital sources said. The Unnao rape victim was set afire by five men, including her two alleged rapists, on Thursday morning when she was going to Rae Bareli to attend a court hearing in the rape case filed by her.
Second phase of polling begins in 20 Jharkhand seats
The second phase of polling began Saturday morning on 20 constituencies in Jharkhand, which votes in five phases to elect 81 members of the legislative assembly. The voting commenced at 7 am, amidst a tight security arrangement. The assembly segments going for polls are: Baharagora, Ghatsila (ST), Potka (ST), Jugsalai (SC), Jamshedpur (East), Jamshedpur (West), Seraikela (ST), Chaibasa (ST), Majhgaon (ST), Jaganathpur (ST), Manoharpur (ST), Chakradharpur (ST), Kharsawan (ST), Tamar (ST), Torpa (ST), Khunti (ST), Mandar (ST), Sisai (ST), Simdega (ST) and Kolebira (ST).
JKNPP calls for 'Jammu bandh' on Saturday
The Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) called for a 'Jammu bandh' on December 7 to protest the internet blockade following the abrogation of certain provisions of Article 370 and the setting up of a toll plaza at Sarore. The Congress said it will support the 'bandh'. A Congress spokesperson said the party will support the 'bandh' call given by the JKNPP.
President Kovind to inaugurate Rajasthan HC building
President Ram Nath Kovind will inaugurate the new building of the Rajasthan High Court here on Saturday. Cyclone near Africa to bring rain in Guj, fishermen warned
Parts of Gujarat will receive unseasonal rain on Saturday due to the cyclonic storm 'Pawan' over the south-west Arabian Sea near the African coast, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday. The IMD, therefore, advised fishermen in the state to refrain from venturing into the area for the next two days.
United Airlines begins its Delhi-San Francisco nonstop flight
Direct connectivity between India and the US has got a boost with the start of the United Airlines’ non-stop Delhi-San Francisco today. The inaugural San Francisco non-stop flight is scheduled to touch down in Delhi early on Saturday morning and will leave at 7.15 on Saturday evening. United Airlines will operate a daily service till March 27 next year, while from March 28 next year till October 23 the flight will be operated three times a week.
DUTA to continue strike demanding absorption of ad-hoc teachers
The Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) decided to continue its indefinite strike demanding absorption of ad-hoc teachers, even as the university appealed them to end their agitation. DUTA officer-bearers had a meeting with HRD ministry officials on Thursday and there was a consensus on modification of the August 28 circular, one of the issues which had prompted the strike. But other issues remained unresolved, the teachers' association said. A general body meeting will be held on Saturday to decide on the future course of the agitation.
NSUI calls for bandh of Guj colleges on recruitment exam issue
The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) has called for a state-wide bandh of all colleges in Gujarat on December 7 over the issue of alleged irregularities in the recruitment exam held last month. The students' wing of the Congress gave the bandh call to express solidarity with the youths demanding cancellation of recruitment exam over the allegations of irregularities.
World Muslim council to launch initiatives to enhance role of youth
The World Muslim Communities Council (WMCC) will host the inaugural edition of the International Youth Forum in Abu Dhabi during which it will launch a major institutional initiative to enhance the role of Muslim youths in their societies as well as in international forums. The WMCC is an expert house for the rationalisation of the working organisations and associations in Muslim societies. More than 250 delegates from non-Muslim countries will also congregate at the two-day conference, themed 'Building Future Leaders: Commitment, Integrity and Innovation', which will start on December 7.
