The Intelligence Bureau (IB) on Thursday questioned why the Indian Air Force and the Border Security Force failed to detect recent incidents of drones carrying weapons from Pakistan. In a detailed report submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the IB also raised questions over the capabilities of both the forces over detection of the drones.

“Why were they (IAF and BSF) not able to detect the presence of any drone activity along their area of operation?,” it asked.

A Pakistan-origin drone was spotted over Ferozepur district in Punjab late on Wednesday evening, two days after another drone was seen in the same district. The first sighting was reported in Hazarasingh Wala village and later in Tendiwala village.

The IB report claimed that Pakistani state actors were behind these incidents and added that the possibility of some undetected sorties had not been ruled out.

Quoting the report, the IANS said on an average 10 kg of explosives, arms or means of communication were smuggled in by the Pakistani drones. The consignments that were smuggled into India were meant for terrorists hiding in Jammu and Kashmir, it further said.

The Centre has already decided to hand over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) the probe related to the recovery of arms, ammunition and communication hardware in Punjab, suspected to have been delivered through drones from across the border.

The decision was taken following Punjab government's request in the wake of the state police's claim to have busted a terror module of the Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF), backed by a group based in Pakistan and Germany, last month.

Punjab Police had said the terror group was conspiring to unleash a series of strikes in Punjab and adjoining states.

Four people were arrested from the outskirts of Chohla Sahib village in Tarn Taran district in Punjab on September 22. A huge cache of arms, including five AK-47 rifles, pistols, satellite phones and hand grenades were seized from them.
